they don’t even own the servers or datacenters they use, but they think customers should provide their passport copies???
how does this makes sense, DigitalOcean or Vultr never asked for my passport, same datacenters that Cloudways app is using for spin-up.
Cloudways Asking Me for My Passport to Sign Up; Avoid Them?
by u/Kayakerguide in webdevJoyceGuestseems shady af
esp. since they are registered in Malta
JosephGuestdidn’t DigitalOcean just buy them out? maybe it’s DO requiring this.
JesseGuestDonaldGuestIt’s not from DO. Their employee in the Reddit thread was trying to defend it saying because of spam they have to do that.
Don’t even make sense, because they are not the datacenter provider.
LoganGuestwhat’s wrong with Malta?
JeremyGuestMalta is well known to be Europe’s money laundering paradise. It’s where all of Italy and Russian mafia clean their illegal cash.
Casinos, human trafficking, hackers, fraud crime and corruption banking. Of course some companies will say they registered there for “taxes” reason, but many times there are some other reasons for using Malta registration.
I would NEVER give any Malta company my personal documents!!
Mafia in Malta: from drugs and gaming to farms and shoes in six months
JenniferGuestI’m surprised DigitalOcean acquired them..
I hope they don’t start asking every customer for passports.
AmandaGuestweird
