SlickStack frowns on cache plugins, AMP plugins, and most security plugins because they add lots of bloat and potential conflicts and don’t improve your WordPress site very much in most cases… often, there are more drawbacks than benefits

it’s better to implement niche “security” plugins that achieve a specific goal instead of a bloated mess of things, here are some examples

    – Disable XML-RPC
    – Disable REST API
    – Limit Login Attempts
    – BBQ Firewall to block XSS attacks
    – reCaptcha or Cloudflare Turnstile plugin

avoid BAD QUALITY PLUGINS AND THEMES

    Cold hard truth—

WordFence is good at telling you after your site is already infected with malware, or doing hot patches for popular WP plugins that have known exploits.

But they don’t have time to patch thousands of WP plugins out in the wild.

    BBQ Firewall

might be unnecessary for some sites but awesome for sites that need it

    read the reviews

“There is a kind of collective misunderstanding regarding “security and protection” in the WordPress system, and the developer of this plugin understands the matter perfectly. This plugin, despite its apparent simplicity, is an important piece among other precautions that site administrators should take to protect their sites. Keep up the good work, Jeff!”

WordFence is a great way to crash your WP site, I dare you to delete the hidden .dotfiles they create in your root directory and see what happens lol

I used Eli’s plugin and it found some suspicious files on my WordPress filesystem using their easy scanning feature.

It doesn’t hack your wp-config or other core files like Wordfence

Eli’s plugin is similar with Jeff’s BBQ plugin, it has some automated protection from injections and stuff, but also has malware scanning yah. although in my experience it doesn’t really detect that many malware. but that is the problem with mostly every malware scanning, they are always outdated and don’t detect malware.

there is no magic plugin to avoid best practices 🙂
