GuestI decided to try out their batch scan tool, which requires purchasing Premium credits. I wanted to scan a niche site I was considering buying.
First I used an online tool to extract the niche site’s URLs from their sitemap.xml
Then I pasted the URLs in Copyscape batch scan tool and requested price estimate, which was around $16 total.
After running the test, it cost around $18 total, and half the URLs failed to scan properly and say only “Error encountered” on the status. So the cost was more than estimated, but I only got around half the URLs scanned properly. Is this normal?

GuestAlso I know coding a plagiarism scanner is very complex and difficult. But the URLs that did scan properly have mostly all unhelpful results. Like, their bots think that a WordPress widget in the sidebar or footer with a legal disclaimer on every page counts as duplicate content for all these blog post URLs.
It seems like a worthless tool. Maybe copy-paste article content in their scanner is better but that’s a huge cost of time and effort that way

They need some if statement like:
if parent element = sidebar/footer/widget { ignore plagiarism }
Amanda
Guestyes exactly.
After many years I can’t believe their tool is not better…

GuestIf you paid almost $20 to discover something you already knew… yah, that sounds like a rather worthless service IMO

GuestThey have a WordPress plugin:

GuestI just tried their text scan feature instead:
https://www.copyscape.com/prosearch.php
It seems better, not any goofy positive matches from sidebar widgets. However, it did find “one result” of plagiarism, but its the same URL from where the article text was that I pasted into the tool lol so that’s okay

The test probably overloaded the site being tested (the average WordPress site these days is so slow and bloated that it is not difficult to do).
Are there any settings to make the test go slower, add some sort of delay between requests, etc. …? That might have helped.
