Google is freaking out at my client’s site because they used to have thousands of .webp images in their design a few years ago, the files don’t exist anymore, but why is Google trying to index these files like they are HTML pages??? I thought they are static assets??
actually, some of them are .jpeg.webp I don’t even know how that happened.
ex:
https://www.example.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fullsizeoutput_16d72.jpeg.webp
hmmmmmmm
Another good reason to hate Webp!!! 🤪

That sounds like https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-webp-images/
this seems like a Google problem tbh
They should know that .webp are static assets and not meant for indexing. I don’t think there’s any point trying to fix these errors in GSC because it’s a mistake by Google.
GGOOOOGGGGGLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I think so. because what can we do to stop this?
