GuestThe
ss-install
wizard is saying the KVM virtualization is required, why??Marilyn
GuestKVM is not “required” since SlickStack is just bash scripts… I mean you can run the setup script on any Linux server you want via SSH/shell
but just that KVM is strongly recommended instead of like Xen, OpenVZ etc

GuestXen, OpenVZ, Virtuozzo… you can try any you want, but SlickStack community will not “help” you if you are having problems because of the non-KVM server
We don’t test non-KVM servers… we believe KVM is the future of cloud servers, at least for next several years.
If you find a bug or config in SlickStack that is causing problems with these other virtualizations you can open a GitHub issue and we are happy to make small changes if it means better support for other environments, but we just don’t prioritize testing them.

GuestXen is still pretty good and a very close #2 to KVM perhaps, but KVM is taking over and seems to have more of a thriving and open community:

GuestXen is fine but if you are doing kernel-level optimization like SlickStack it certainly makes things easier to focus more on one environment (KVM)

GuestKVM is awesome

GuestI think Amazon AWS is the only large cloud still focused on Xen.

GuestVultr is 100% KVM

Guestso does Slickstack technically work fine on XEN boxes too?
