are WebP images really that important for WordPress

Google Pagespeed gives my site a poor grade because I’m not using .webp image format
I’m not running an image gallery or anything big, just a few photos
Here’s my take:
WebP is utter bullshit. It’s not a portable format, you can’t use it for anything on any computer device known to mankind. It only lives on the web…..
Therefore I don’t think anyone should waste time worrying about it, cuz the only players affected by it are like CDNs and browsers.
Google, Facebook, Cloudflare… they can use WebP if they want, but don’t be expecting your average blogger or web designer to deal with that crap
overrated
It’s pretty easy to get JPEG images loading fast, saving an extra 0.000001 seconds with .webp is not going to make any difference to your rankings!
