A member of our Discord server mentioned this error was showing up during Nginx installation along with a similar one for MySQL package
chown: invalid group: 'mysql:adm' error on RackNerd
LarryGuestInterestingly this error has been popping up the last few months:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1445638/chown-invalid-group-rootadm-problem-when-installing-apache2
Even on WordOps too:
https://community.wordops.net/d/1541-chown-invalid-group-rootadm
Nobody mentions the cloud providers, but I’m guessing there might be a few specific providers where this error is happening.
JuanGuestI’m fairly certain this is caused by certain cloud providers like RackNerd having poorly configured Ubuntu images/etc during provisioning. The
adm
group is special for Ubuntu and theroot
user should already be in that group afaik. So pretty much I think you need to ask your provider to fix their ISO
ThomasGuesthmmmm….
StevenGuestthe question is does this happen anywhere else besides RackNerd
KathrynGuestRacknerd had some other ISO problems too. Just not very good ISOs they need to be improved. Before they didn’t even install
rsync
by default which is strange -
