Crowdsec vs. fail2ban for general server protection?

    which is better.

    I have seen case studies of Crowdsec using too many resources on small cloud servers, but that was a while back not sure if still true.

    CrowdSec will block many attacks before they even reach your servers, because it regularly downloads central IP files.

    fail2ban is a paper map, CrowdSec is Waze.

    CPU and RAM usage is not very high.

    Crowdsec is more “modern” maybe. But it’s also more commercial and centrally controlled, you are relying on a third party company to maintain lists and provide them for you. And I’m pretty certain those lists are not public. Which I don’t really like.

    From what I gather, Crowdsec is sort of like Akismet, a large shared database of spammers, DDOS sources, and other bad actors.
