After that seems like @semrush was largely responsible for turning the phrase into a buzzword from late 2020 onward, trying to sell their software features lol
These guys are saying to cluster your topics/posts with child pages or interlinking, but if you have a proper niche focus site-wide it is much better. And then you can ignore all these hype because your entire website is niche and focused about the same topic.
