When is Cloudflare “real IP” actually needed for WordPress
- This topic is empty.
This is the question I’ve had for a long time, because it seems like some country detection plugins for e.g. WooCommerce work fine without it, at least… this is from my memory!
Starting this thread because of:
https://github.com/littlebizzy/slickstack/issues/198
There are many web developers wary of logging real user IP addresses these days because of GDPR and other privacy regulations and just to avoid logging personal data when it’s not really necessary.
On a different but related note, Cloudflare has this header available
CF-IPCountry
https://developers.cloudflare.com/support/network/configuring-ip-geolocation/
So when does a WordPress site actually need the real visitor’s IP vs. just grabbing the visitor’s country instead from the header?
That is my question.
This discussion is because SlickStack doesn’t support either one currently and there have been ongoing chats in Discord and elsewhere about it
