I was surprised I didn’t see many people talking about this. I hadn’t read up on much SEO news but I tried to find mentions about this, but all I could find is about E-E-A-T so I must assume this is related

I think COVID pushed this policy into high gear, because of the “anti-disinformation” horseshit that the US government was pushing media companies to embrace. That’s my conclusion anyway.

It’s like Google merged their anti-conservative, anti-anti-vaxxer filters into the existing E-E-A-T algorithm bias and it kicked the censorship up like never before. It’s just incredible how many news websites don’t show up at all.

It’s new in the sense that otherwise quality content is no longer being indexed, and the old tricks (sitemap, GSC, linking from homepage) don’t help at all. It used to be that just very thin content and spam wasn’t indexed, now it’s professionally written articles that Google’s masters have decided they disagree with politically or stuff. Or straight up deindexing an entire domain, things that never happened in the past 2 decades…
